My Pet Has Died but I Can't Afford Cremation Right Now. What Are My Options?

Losing a pet is heartbreaking. When it happens suddenly, the cost of what comes next can add real worry at the worst possible time. If you cannot pay for cremation straight away, please know that you are not alone, and your pet will still be cared for with dignity.

The short answer

You have options. My Pet Farewell can arrange split payments, a short-term payment plan or a booking that is secured until payday, and you can spread the cost with Klarna. Some pet insurance policies pay towards cremation. Call or message us and we will talk it through without pressure.

Talk to us first

Tell us what you can manage and when. We will find a way to look after your pet now, with payment to follow.

Payment options we can offer

  • Split payments: pay part now and the rest later
  • Short-term payment plans: spread the cost over an agreed period
  • Secure booking until payday: we care for your pet now, and you pay when you are able
  • Klarna: spread the cost at checkout

We will make sure your pet receives individual care straight away, while payment follows when you are able.

Understanding your options

Option What it means
Individual cremation Your pet is cremated alone and their ashes are returned to you
Communal cremation Offered by some providers at a lower cost; pets are cremated together and no ashes are returned. We specialise in individual cremation.
Choose an urn later Start with a simple container and choose a memorial urn when you are ready

Check your pet insurance

Some policies pay towards euthanasia and cremation, especially after an illness or accident. Look for sections called "end-of-life care" or "euthanasia and cremation". Our guide explains whether pet insurance covers cremation and what your insurer will ask for.

While you are deciding

Place your pet on an absorbent blanket in the coolest room of the house, and try to arrange collection within 24 hours. If your pet has just died, our guide on what to do when your dog dies may help.

Common questions

Can you collect my pet before I have paid?

Talk to us. We can often arrange collection and care straight away and agree how payment will follow, so your pet is looked after while you sort things out.

What is the cheapest option?

Some providers offer communal cremation at a lower cost, but pets are cremated together and no ashes are returned. At My Pet Farewell we specialise in individual cremation, and we can help you spread the cost so your pet's ashes come home to you.

Does pet insurance pay for cremation?

Some policies do, particularly after an illness or accident that is covered. We can give you an itemised invoice and certificate to send to your insurer.

How long can I keep my pet at home while I decide?

Keep your pet in the coolest room of the house on an absorbent blanket, and try to arrange collection within 24 hours.
